Paint giants like Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore and Behr, as well as all things design Pantone go to great lengths to develop and predict colors for the upcoming year.
Far from random, forecasts are made on the current year’s trends as well as the current mood. Well, we can all agree 2020 has served up all kinds of mood!
Additionally, we now demand more of our homes than any other time in history. For a lot of us, homes are now where we work, play, and learn. So today’s home, and the home of 2021 is not only a sanctuary but all of the above, often for multiple family members.
Somehow, the colors of 2021 need to live up to this new reality. While there are some overlapping colors and themes, the paint giants are smart enough to recognize that people are different. Decorating and architectural styles are different and specific. So they all offer multiple colors for homeowners to tell their color story.
Here’s the breakdown.
Behr
Colors inspired by nature to promote the sense of calm and wellness and dubbed compassionate colors, they are soothing and create a sense of peacefulness.
Organized into six palettes, the 21 shades include light, warm neutrals, restorative blues and greens, and soft, gentle hues from pale pink to smoky white. All were carefully selected to offer homeowners “comfort and personalization”.
Benjamin Moore

Sherwin Williams
Sherwin Williams has gone with rich, warm, down to earth Urbane Bronze SW 7048 (245-C7) as their top pick.

Comprised of a collection of 40 hues across four palettes that celebrate the Rhythm of Color – the balance between fast and slow, quiet and expressive, and virtual and physical. The forecast is designed to bring the pulse of color to any space: Sanctuary, Encounter, Continuum and Tapestry.
The 2021 Color Trends are gorgeous and offer enough variety to express yourself while creating a sense of peace and calm that most of us are craving. Remember, color can definitely change the way we see ourselves and contribute to our state of mind. On the bright side, if you hate it once you have painted, it’s only paint and you can change it! Happy painting.
