Lake Oconee is Getting a New Golf Course

HE’S BACK. Not Arnold, but TOM FAZIO.

Fazio is here to expand upon the treasure trove of golf available to members, and the public across some 12,000 acres of sprawling property known as Reynolds Lake Oconee about 85 miles south of Atlanta.

Ever hear the phrase “embarrassment of riches?” Well, that’s what golfers have at Reynolds Lake Oconee, and there is soon to be more, many thanks to Tom Fazio. Six courses on the property now, soon to be seven.

There’s Jack Nicklaus’s Great Water, ranked #2 in Best Public Courses in Georgia by Golfweek, Rees Jones’s The Oconee, ranked #4 in state, and Tom Fazio’s The National (comprised of three nine’s, Bluff, Ridge, and Cove) which is ranked #10 in Georgia. These three courses comprise only 50% of the courses available on the property, albeit, the highest ranked. Fear not, the other two courses available to the public (The Preserve and The Landing) come in at 12th and 13th BEST IN STATE.

And if that’s not enough, there’s the Members-only Creek Club… the only fully private course at Reynolds Lake Oconee, and a truly unique layout. If you don’t know any members, it’s time to make some new friends. Playing Creek Club will be worth the
effort.

So, six courses total, as we detailed each in our earlier website Blog Post, A Golfer’s Dream with Fazio about to “stitch together” a seventh.

Fazio’s The National is considered by many to be the most challenging of the six courses, and Dr. Fazio Frankenstein is back. He’s drawn up nine new holes to be added to his “Bluff nine” (from The National’s 27 holes) to make a brand new 18-hole layout.

Rest assured it will play tough, but also utilize the natural beauty of the land, its rolling terrain, and plenty of elevation changes. Other Fazio characteristics immediate wow factor, which is why his courses photograph so well. Elevated tee boxes with dramatic sightlines, holes individually framed from tee to green without running into the next, untouched natural beauty, and large green complexes with sloped areas to be AVOIDED.

Fazio’s new eighteen-hole course is scheduled for completion late next year and will likely include all the things that have made him among the most renowned architects in the world. Oh, and this one will be “members-only” as well, so if you aren’t one, or have not befriended any, there’s no time like the present!
