Step Outside

Step Outside

Staring at the same FOUR walls the last few weeks has taken a toll on everyone. Luckily, the warm North Atlanta temperatures have arrived to save us! We can all Step Outside and create some outdoor living spaces that can accomplish three incredibly
important things.

  1. give us something to do that’s productive
  2. potentially add value to our property
  3. give us somewhere else to hang out besides in our homes

Where to Start

The best place to start is to really look at your outdoor space with honest eyes. Is it purposed to serve you and your family? Has its beauty been maximized? Take a few minutes to objectively look at it. Sometimes it’s hard to see our spaces as they really are. Karen is great source for ideas, and can help you with some suggestions.

Pergola

While Pergolas are not an additional room as they have open ceilings and no walls, they can certainly feel that way. They can offer some shade, privacy and plenty of wow factor. Pergolas are made from a wide variety of materials like wood, vinyl, and steel, so
do plenty of research before you decide. They are great for adding value and visual interest to your backyard.

Comfy Seating & Day Beds

You may want to create a private little reading nook as an oasis for one. Or, if you have the space consider a full dining room table to able to have dinner al fresco. Another possibility is the dramatic Day Bed. They are a huge trend right now particularly in the
North Atlanta. You can find several sources to build one for you.

Fire Pit or Fireplace

There is something so inviting about a fire feature. There are lots of gas options that require only a flip of a switch.

Pavers

Huge way to add impact and define the space. Available in lots of different materials and colors to let you get the exact look you are going for. See more on Pavers from Karen’s Earlier Blog Post Backyard Refresh.

Water Feature

Water features are a fantastic way to add interest and can create an incredibly relaxing experience. Add a bird feeder nearby as birds love to be near water.

Landscaping

You do not have to go crazy with your budget to make a huge difference. The color that comes with flowers goes a long way. For a list of quick growing annuals and perennials check out this handy guide.
