What’s New in Gardens, Patios and Backyards

The Outdoor Season is upon us! In this blog we will cover some of the latest and greatest trends and outdoor features to make your backyard amazing just in time for spring and summer!

The features outlined below place a heavy emphasis on relaxation, health and healing, and are referred to as “Wellness Yards”.

Wellness Yards

Mental health and the link between our physical and mental health is abundantly clear, which is precisely why homeowners are looking for their own little slice of peace and serenity in their homes. Getting outside to sit, reflect, mediate, or simply relax is a huge draw for people. You don’t have to create a massive Zen Garden with a Koi Pond (although you could) but rather a dedicated space for you to chill is all that is required to see benefits. Extras to enhance the experience would be a small water feature or fire bowl, just to add to the benefit.

Edible Gardens

Edible gardens surged during the pandemic, with people adding containers or raised beds for growing vegetables and fruits. Growing food is a trend that is sticking around.

Low on space? Vertical gardens are a fantastic option. Parents are finding getting their hands dirty a great way to unwind, and a very teachable moment for their children.

Year-Round Outdoor Kitchens and Barbecue Stations

Our mild winters in North Atlanta make year-round outdoor kitchens a top trend. Rising inflation has made it even more attractive for people to stay home and cook rather than go out for meals. People are getting creative with cooking all sorts of fare, not just burgers on the grill. Pizza ovens and other options make this a family fun activity that can be rewarding and financially advantageous.

If you are planning to add an outdoor kitchen, remember to plan to have some cover so that you can enjoy it rain or shine.

Plunge Pools

One of the more recent trends we’re seeing are plunge pools. They don’t require the space of a full-size pool, and you can heat them, making them suitable for a cold plunge or a hot soak. This option is very cost effective and a great way to unwind at the end of the day.

Hope you are inspired to create a refuge in your backyard, deck, or private space to relax, unwind and reflect. With just a few elements you can create your own sanctuary that will serve you and your well-being.
