Backyard Refresh in Time for Fall

Backyard Refresh in Time for Fall

Finally! Now that the cooler temperatures of fall are (hopefully) around the corner, and we can sit outside and actually enjoy it, it’s time to think about the condition and usability of your backyard.

Here are some ideas- some of which are bigger than others that can freshen up your backyard and make it a welcoming and enjoyable space to entertain friends, or just sit and relax with a good book and a glass of wine.

The Power of Pavers

Pavers come in all shapes, sizes and colors and can provide a great deal of visual impact. They can be used to define individual spaces. You can designate areas or zones for dining, seating or use them to visually transition into other spaces. You can use them to create a path for walking, adding some curves for visual appeal. Oversized ones can be very dramatic and create a stable almost rug like feel for putting underneath a table and chairs. (Think dining room table and chairs with warm rug underneath).
In between the pavers, you can customize the look by using a variety of materials like pea gravel, moss, dwarf ground cover grasses, or sand.

Embellish the Deck

Decks are considered hardscape. Pay special attention to the landing areas and base of your deck. They can really benefit from embellishment of softer materials like tall plants, ferns, and fabrics – think soft cushions and curtains.

Curtains – Not Just for the Inside

Outdoor curtains are incredibly popular particularly in our North Atlanta Real Estate Market. We see them on decks, patios, porches and pergolas. Curtains provide privacy, protection from the sun. Fun fabric choices that are weatherproof are abundant. So go for it!

Create a Lawn Terrace

Flat yards are great on the one hand. On the other hand, they can be boring and lack visual appeal. Consider terracing. Adding another level creates strong visual appeal.

Don’t Forget About the Entrance

The entrance to your back yard can be a wonderful opportunity for impact. An oversized arbor, or a simple gate can be equally enchanting. Don’t forget to add some creeping vines, or hanging baskets and lights to fully maximize the moment.

Create a Cozy Nook

A comfortable chair or two, along with an outdoor end table for your book and glass of wine are wonderful additions to create a cozy space for spending some quiet time outdoors.
