Downsizing

DOWNSIZING & RIGHTSIZING

Millions of Americans are embracing or beginning to embrace the idea of downsizing or rightsizing. Americans are taking a collective pause to question and examine how we are living, and if our lives are bringing us joy.

The Minimalism Movement is all about living with less…including less financial burdens such as debt and unnecessary expenses is trending like never before. The Minimalism Lifestyle is a commitment to living life based on experiences rather than worldly possessions.

True Empathy and Knowledge Comes from Personal Experience

Recently, Karen and her husband made the choice to downsize. As a realtor, Karen has helped many people do the same, but there was several unique and helpful revelations that she discovered while going through it herself. It’s true what they say, “personal experience is the best teacher!”

The Conscious Choice to Create a Lifestyle That Will Bring You Contentment, Peace And Joy.

Sometimes is best to begin with what you don’t want. Here are examples of multiple wants and don’t wants you can walk through.

Lifestyle

“We want zero yard to take care of.”

“We want to be in a neighborhood with no restrictions or age limits.”

“We want a community of people that are of a similar age.”

“We find it more interesting of living around people of all different age groups.”

“We want walkability.”

“We don’t want to be in a neighborhood with children.”

“We don’t want to be next to people.”

“We really want our amenities like pool, tennis, golf.”

“We prefer not to pay for additional amenities as part of our neighborhood.”

Financial

“We want to cut our mortgage in half.”

“We want to have no mortgage.”

“We don’t mind paying association fees to belong to part of a neighborhood.”

“We would love to be able to rent a mountain or beach property for a month a time.”

The more specific you can be with what you want to happen, the easier it is to find the perfect fit. You will be literally manifesting your future.

Downsizing can have a negative connotation, and make you feel solely like you are “stepping down” or “settling for less”. This is simply not true. Many people are downsizing today by choice and not necessity.

As we have said, downsizing/rightsizing may come with some connotations that are not positive. So it’s important to challenge some of the pre-conceived notions, and really unpack some of your own beliefs that could be standing in your way.

Fear of Being Judged by Others

Caring about what people think can be a deterrent to doing what is best for you. That’s a shame, but it can also be a reality.

Fear of Feeling Like You’ve Settled

We are a “want it now” society. We can also be a “want it all” society. The caveat is don’t confuse wanting it all with having it all. All is the operative word here, and you will need to unpack what “all” is for you.
